The Mars Hill God

"So Paul stood in the midst of the Council of Athens on Mars Hill in Athens.  He then said, "Men of Athens, I observe that you are religious in all respects.  For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with the inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD."- Acts 17:22-23 NASB

The Apostle Paul uses that "Unknown God" inscription as a means of telling the Greeks about his "Known God." And it is a central tenet of the Judeo-Christian faith that we worship the God who has made Himself known.  Yet... and we must always be deeply aware that there is more to know about God than what we presently know.  And that is as it ought to be ... for in every good and growing relationship, we keep knowing more and more about the other person in our life.  And in learning more and more about them, we usually learn more and more about ourselves.

I find that in good and healthy relationships, especially in those relationships formed in love, there is a trust that allows us to reveal more and more of our soul to the other person.

And I find that in good and healthy relationships, especially in those relationships formed in love, there is a desire that causes us to search deeper and deeper into the heart of the other person.

So the question for most of us is not whether we worship a known God or an unknown God, but rather are we revealing more and more of ourselves to God and are we searching for more and more of the heart of God.  In other words, is our "Known" God become more Known to us with each passing day?

PRAYER FOCUS:  Lord, let me share with You something of my hidden soul...hoping, Lord, that You might share with me ...

May the Gentle Grace of Christ be with you.
